Communication Students Produce "Faces of Change" on Convergence Web site Communications students at Cabrini College have launched "Faces of Change," the result of a year-long "convergence" project focusing on student activism. Throughout the 2007-08 academic year, eight students led by Cathy Yungmann, associate professor of communications, researched and interviewed activists on specific issues. Convergence refers to a multi-media presentation using video, photography, audio, and written pieces on issues ranging from peace and awareness to Uganda to finding a cure for melanoma cancer. Newspaper judged among best in country
The Loquitur, Cabrini College's weekly student newspaper, has been selected to receive the Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker Award as best non-daily college and university newspaper in the country. Judging is based on coverage, content, quality of writing, reporting, leadership on the opinion page, evidence of in-depth reporting, design, photography, arts and graphics. Amanda Finnegan was editor in chief. The Associated Collegiate Press is the oldest and largest organization for college students in media. The Pacemaker Award is the highest honor student publications can receive. Cabrini is one of 18 selected. Other finalists include Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Johns Hopkins University.

Senior communication majors' documentary chosen as national finalists in competition. "Our Hands Are Not Tied," an audio documentary by three Cabrini College communication students and produced by WYBF 89.1 "The Burn," is one of three national finalist for the National College Broadcasters, Inc. Production Awards Competition. 2 grads win top journalism award
Two Cabrini graduates, Meghan Hurley and Amanda Finnegan, pictured here with an Iraqi refugee family in Lebanon, received the highest award for journalism given to journalists writing for Catholic publications, the Eileen Egan award, because of stories they did for Loquitur on Fair Trade. They are the first journalists to win who wrote for a college newspaper. As a result of their award, they traveled to Syria and Lebanon with Catholic Relief Services for two weeks at the beginning of October to report on the Iraqi refugee crisis.
Com majors lobby senators in D.C.
Twenty three students in the Working for Global Justice seminar class traveled from their Cabrini classroom to Washington D.C., on Friday, April 11, in order to lobby Congress on the topic of foreign assistance for underdeveloped countries and additional funding for food aid. The trip was a result of close collaboration of the students with Catholic Relief Services. They went through semester-long training for advocacy and how to lobby Congress. Freshmen do hands-on multimedia first week of school
Right from the first week of school, Cabrini College freshman communication majors plunge into making multimedia. Cabrini freshmen got a chance at hands-on learning about Fair Trade when their class used multimedia reporting at a Fair Trade fair in nearby Media, Pa. Over the past two years, Media, Pa., has been recognized as the first Fair Trade town in the United States. Recently, a freshmen ECG 100 class visited Media for the town's Fair Trade live concert and "Fair" Fair to learn first hand about Fair Trade.
